I am a long term Wigan resident and my children have been educated in the Boroughs schools and colleges.
Before retirement I was a schoolmaster for 37 years, teaching Mathematics to all levels including GCSE and A level. My career progressed through various appointments including Head of Mathematics, Senior Tutor, Assistant Head and Deputy Head. All my teaching was in 11-18 Grammar/Comprehensive schools.
I possess an upper 2nd BA degree in Mathematics and am fully teacher trained. My experience involves many years as Assistant Chief Examiner at NEAB examination board. Also I undertook responsibility for whole school initiatives: - e.g. monitoring, target setting, value added and benchmarking. The school timetable, CAT testing and Key Stage 3 testing were also part of my duties. In January 2012 I was pleased to accept the post of governor for Abraham Guest Academy. I currently serve as Chair to the Academy Standards Committee and am the appointed governor with responsibility for Standards and the Curriculum.
I am the proprietor of David Rosbottom & Company (Marketing & Business Consultancy) and Director & General Manager of Cables & Conductors Ltd. (Sales & Distribution of Electrical Conductors : Lamifil n.v.).
Prior to this I held senior roles with Delta Crompton Ltd., as Product Manager and the General Electric Company of England Ltd., (GEC Cables & Wires Group) as Marketing/Commercial Director which also included being the director responsible for the Aluminium Division general management, including financial, sales, production, technical and quality management functions.
Outside of work, as I believe that all our children/students are entitled to the best education we can give
I also enjoy sport being involved with, nowadays as a supporter only, Wigan Warriors, Liverpool FC and both of my older grandsons football/rugby teams, and supporting my wife and family in encouraging any activities that all of my grandchildren are involved in.
Before I retired I was a Building Surveyor working in local government and the ‘New Towns Commission’ which included local education. Since retirement 14 years ago I have been a school governor in the local area and have served as a school governor for past 12 years on the Governing Body at Abraham Guest High School.
I am now in my third year as a parent governor of Abraham Guest Academy. Having had two children already pass through the school, and being a Governor at a local Primary school, I wanted to offer some of my knowledge as a governor over the last 8 years as my Daughter is also being educated at the Academy.
I was an Abraham Guest High school pupil and grew up, and still live, in the Kitt Green area where the school is based.
I currently pass my time as a private consultant in the property sector and know that my ability to challenge and question is what keeps myself, the school and the governing body always striving to achieve better.
I am the Y8 Pastoral Manager and have worked at Abraham Guest for over ten years. I am responsible for the pastoral care of all Y8 pupils and it is my job to ensure that when pupils arrive at the Academy, they are ready to learn. I am often the first point of contact between school and home and have built strong, trusting relationships, with both pupils and their families. I am delighted to have been nominated as staff governor and will serve on the Finance and Premises Committee.
I am an experienced School Business Manager at St Mark’s CE Primary School, Newtown, Wigan, one of the local feeder schools for the Academy.
I have a good range of educational experience; having worked at St Mark’s for over 11 years and am a member of the School’s Senior Management Team. I hold the Certificate and Diploma of School Business Management. My core duties consist of managing the school budget, HR, repairs and maintenance, pupil data and ensuring the smooth running of a very busy school office.
I have many years’ experience of Governance – having served as a Staff Governor at St Mark’s for over 9 years and most recently I held the position of Parent Governor at Winstanley College, the Academy’s Sponsor, where I was involved in number of high level proposals that were implemented for the benefit of all stakeholders.
I believe that Governors have an important part to play in contributing to the strategic development at the Academy and strive to deliver a first class learning environment for its pupils and for the benefit of the local community.
I currently serve on the HR and Audit Committees. It is a privilege to support the pupils, staff and Governors at the Academy.
I have been a parent governor with The Academy for a 1 year. I am a mum of two and have lived in the Wigan area since birth. I attended School and College in the Wigan area and trained as a nurse in Preston from 1986 & have been a qualified teacher in Higher Education since 2007.
